Engagement Policy

Our commitment to principled partnerships

Our Commitment

At MADNESS, we believe that meaningful innovation must be built on a foundation of integrity. Our ethos—Consideration for Life, Unwavering Integrity, Limitless Thinking with Mindful Action, and Selective Engagement—guides every partnership we pursue.

We operate according to principles rooted in Islamic ethics, which align with universal values: fairness, transparency, the avoidance of harm, and respect for human dignity. These principles inform who we work with and the industries we choose not to serve.

This policy exists to ensure clarity and mutual understanding from the outset. It reflects our conviction that long-term success and positive global impact require more than technical excellence—they require ethical coherence.

Industries & Activities We Do Not Serve

We respectfully decline engagements with organizations whose primary activities fall within the following categories:

1. Interest-Based Financial Services

  • Conventional banks engaged in interest-based lending and deposits
  • Traditional insurance providers (life, auto, health)
  • Mortgage lenders offering interest-based home financing
  • Investment firms dealing in speculative derivatives, short selling, or margin trading

Why: We avoid business models built on interest and excessive speculation, which we consider exploitative and economically destabilizing.

2. Harmful Consumables

  • Alcohol production, distribution, and retail (breweries, distilleries, wineries, bars)
  • Pork and pork-derived product manufacturing and processing
  • Tobacco and vaping product manufacturing
  • Recreational cannabis production and dispensaries

Why: We do not support industries that profit from substances widely recognized as harmful to physical health and social well-being.

3. Gambling & Adult Entertainment

  • Casinos, betting agencies, lotteries, and gambling equipment manufacturers
  • Pornography production, distribution, and related establishments

Why: These industries exploit human vulnerability and promote behaviors that harm individuals, families, and communities.

4. Weapons & Arms

  • Manufacturers of firearms, missiles, and military combat equipment
  • Arms dealers and traders

Why: We choose not to contribute to industries whose core business involves instruments of violence and destruction.

5. Unethical Biotechnology

  • Human cloning research and technologies
  • Genetic engineering that violates widely accepted bioethical standards (e.g., cross-species modification without therapeutic justification)

Why: We support scientific progress that respects human dignity and the natural order.

6. Advertising for Prohibited Industries

  • Marketing agencies whose primary focus is promoting alcohol, gambling, conventional banking, or other industries listed above

Why: We extend our ethical standards to those who actively amplify the reach of harmful industries.

7. Non-Compliant Trading & Commodities

  • Gold and silver futures trading without immediate physical exchange
  • Currency (forex) trading involving leverage, swap fees, or delayed settlement

Why: We adhere to principles that require fairness and transparency in commodity and currency exchange—particularly avoiding speculative instruments that create artificial risk.

8. Exploitative or Deceptive Entertainment Media

  • Production companies whose primary output glorifies violence, immorality, or content designed to deceive or manipulate audiences

Why: We believe media has a responsibility to inform, inspire, and elevate—not exploit.

Additional Considerations

Beyond the categories listed above, we may decline to engage with any organization where:

  • There is evidence of systemic human rights violations or labor exploitation
  • Environmental destruction is central to business operations
  • Business practices involve fraud, deception, or corruption
  • The engagement would require us to compromise our stated values

What This Means for You

If your organization operates in any of the areas above, we will respectfully decline to work together. This is not a judgment on individuals—it is a reflection of our commitment to principled engagement.

If you are uncertain whether your organization aligns with our policy, we encourage you to reach out. We are happy to have an open conversation.

Why This Policy Exists

We are not attempting to impose our values on others. We recognize that businesses operate within diverse legal and cultural frameworks, and that others may hold different views.

However, as a company, we have the responsibility—and the privilege—to choose who we partner with. This policy allows us to do so transparently, ensuring that every collaboration reflects the principles we stand for: innovation with integrity, progress with purpose, and impact with ethics.
